Essential Items to Pack for Every Vegas Trip
Packing for Las Vegas? Here are some essential wardrobe items to consider, including the timeless Little Black Dress! The LBD is a cult classic and a staple for any Vegas wardrobe. In addition to your Little Black Dress, essential wardrobe items should include versatile pieces that can effortlessly transition from day to night. The key is to pack go-to pieces that make you feel amazing and align with your individual level of comfort.
The beauty of a capsule wardrobe is that it gives you the freedom to express your personal style while ensuring you’re always feeling your best. So, rock your individuality and have a fantastic Vegas weekend!
Little black dress
You can’t go wrong with a black dress in Vegas. A long black dress or a cocktail dress can be worn to dinner, nightclubs, shows and the casino floor. They are great to dress up or down, depending on the style, and are easy to wear to multiple times in a weekend if you need to.
Swimsuit
Unless you’re visiting Las Vegas in the rainy season, you’re going to want to hit up the pool. Pack a swimsuit no matter how long you’re staying. It can get VERY hot in Vegas, and a dip in the pool is the perfect way to cool down.
If you’re going to Vegas with friends or going for a celebration, you may be interested in going to a Day Club or Vegas Pool Party. These are separately ticketed pools at the hotels, ages 21 and over. These will usually have DJs, a bar, and dancing. Some of these day clubs require a bit more elevated swim attire, so be sure to check out the dress code before you arrive.

Flats/Sandals
Flats or sandals are a must for going to Vegas. Whether you’re wearing them to the pool, for walking around the strip or going out at night – they are a necessity.
Depending on your style, you can pack a couple of nice sandals for the trip and be okay. I usually like to pack a cute/casual pair for the pool and walking around and then one nicer pair of flats or sandals to wear with a dinner outfit.
Emergency flats are also a must if you’re planning on wearing heels to dinner or a club. Your feet will HURT! Everything on the Vegas Strip is farther than it seems, so order a car like Lyft or Uber when you can and pack small emergency flats in your bag to wear if you’re walking to and from an event.
Casual Wear: Shorts, Pants, Tops
Vegas may be a lot of flash but it’s also a lot of walking, a lot of heat, and a lot of resting in the room between parties.
Between all of your fancy party and dinner outfits come the “real” clothes. The clothes you’ll wear to Starbucks in the morning, the clothes you’ll wear to run down to the lobby to grab some last-minute items. The real clothes.
I’ve made the mistake of only packing cute outfits and pajamas and I have nothing to wear to run downstairs to grab coffee and a sandwich. Pack some comfortable clothes to walk around in and maybe dress it up with a nice jacket if needed.
Loungewear is always a great option to pack because it’s cute, very resort focused, and comfortable.
Nice Jacket
A quality jacket is always useful, especially in Vegas. Jackets are great transitional pieces that can take your day look to a night look.
Pack a nice jacket that fits your style. If you don’t wear leather jackets, then don’t pack one. If you love cardigan sweaters – pack that! Stay true to your style and pack a nice jacket that you know you can dress up and down.
Versatile Bag
Pack your go-to bag for Vegas. Of course, you’ll probably want to pack one for every outfit but don’t forget to pack something comfortable for you to use when you’re walking around.
Crossbody bags are perfect for Vegas because their cute and practical. You can wear them with dresses or a casual outfit and depending on the size, they can hold a lot.
A crossbody bag is also great for Vegas because you won’t accidentally leave it at a bar or club and you can hold drinks and dance with your purse secure.
Heels – Optional
If you plan on dressing up for dinner, drinks or going to a club then you’re definitely going to want to pack a pair of heels.
If you’re doing a scenic and relaxed Vegas vacation, then you can stick to some nice flats and sandals.
Packing a pair of low heels is always my preference. I prefer not to wear heels but sometimes a fancy dinner comes up and you want to be prepared.
Pack heels you can walk in, not just look cute in. There is a lot of walking in Vegas, so be prepared and be realistic. (I hate being realistic but once I hit my 30’s I was all about it.)
Tips for What to Wear in Vegas
Layering
Layering is always a good idea for going out at night. Unless you’re visiting during the intense summer months, packing a nice light jacket is always a good idea. Pack a jacket or sweat that can easily be folded into your bag.
Hats and scarves are also great layering pieces and perfect for helping to protect against the sun and wind. Both are light to carry and easy to store in your bag or hang off your bag.
Transitional Pieces
Pack transitional pieces, like the dress that can be dressed up or down. Sandals, you can wear for all-day walking, to the pool, and for dinner. Focus on pieces that you can wear with multiple outfits and for different types of events.
Versatile Bag for Every Outfit
Stick with a bag color that matches your overall aesthetic. Something that can be worn casually or dressed up for dinner and a show. Try focusing on a solid color instead of patterns and pick something with a heavier weight or looks like a heavier weight for a more polished look.
Bag Flats/Emergency Flats
The ultimate Vegas hack for walking back to your room after a crazy evening of food, drinks and dancing – emergency flats. Please don’t walk around barefoot on the strip, pack some socks or these super bendy and packable emergency flats in your bag to wear for your trek back to your room.
There can be glass and trash and of course, nastiness on the floor of the hotels and streets, be careful and wear proper shoes.
Extras: Sunnies, Hat, Water Bottle
The weather in Vegas is usually in extremes. It’s usually crazy hot or crazy windy and cold and there are even flash floods on the Vegas Strip! Pack the essentials like sunglasses, a cute hat, and a water bottle to ensure you have all of your bases covered.
