Where Are the Carlsbad Flower Fields?

The Flower Fields are located right off the freeway in Carlsbad, just a few minutes from the beach and Carlsbad Village.
Address:
5704 Paseo del Norte
Carlsbad, CA 92008
They’re located between the Windmill building and Legoland, just next to the Carlsbad Premium Outlets, so they’re very easy to find.
What Flowers Are at the Carlsbad Flower Fields?

The Carlsbad Flower Fields are famous for their ranunculus flowers, which bloom in bright shades of red, orange, yellow, pink, and white.
These flowers are grown across more than 50 acres, creating the colorful stripes across the hillside that the fields are known for.
The ranunculus bloom every spring, typically between March and early May, depending on the weather and growing conditions.
Tips for Visiting the Carlsbad Flower Fields

A few tips that can make your visit even better:
Buy tickets online ahead of time.
It makes the entry process much smoother.
Visit earlier in the day if possible.
Crowds are lighter and it’s easier to take photos.
Wear comfortable shoes.
You’ll be walking through the fields and garden areas.
Respect the flowers and the workers.
Stay in the designated photo areas and don’t walk into the flower beds.
Best Time to Visit the Carlsbad Flower Fields

The flower fields are only open for a short season each year during the spring bloom.
Generally, the fields open in early March and stay open through early May.
If you want to see the flowers at their fullest bloom, the middle of the season (late March through April) is usually the best time to visit.
We visited earlier in the season, and it was really nice because it wasn’t insanely crowded yet. Parking was relatively easy and there weren’t long lines spilling out into the street.
Later in the season, once the flowers are fully blooming, the crowds definitely increase.
How Much Do Tickets Cost?

We purchased our tickets online earlier in the week.
At the time of our visit:
- Adults: $27
- Children: $17
- Season Pass: $65
Parking is also paid parking, so plan for that when you arrive.
Buying tickets online ahead of time is usually the easiest option, especially during peak bloom season when things get busy.
When Do the Carlsbad Flower Fields Open?

The Carlsbad Flower Fields are only open for a limited time each year during the spring bloom season.
Typically, the Flower Fields open in early March and remain open through early May, depending on weather and growing conditions. The ranunculus flowers bloom throughout the season, with the peak bloom usually happening sometime in April.
Because the bloom changes slightly each year, it’s always a good idea to check the official Flower Fields website before visiting to confirm current opening dates and hours.
If you want the most colorful views and full rows of flowers, visiting mid-season is usually your best bet.
What Are the Hours for the Carlsbad Flower Fields?

The Carlsbad Flower Fields are typically open daily during the spring season from around 9:00 AM to 6:00 PM.
Hours can vary slightly depending on the time of year and special events happening at the fields, so it’s always worth double-checking the current hours before planning your visit.
Arriving earlier in the day is often the best option, especially if you want to avoid larger crowds and have more space for photos.
Morning light is also beautiful across the flower fields, which makes it a great time for photography.
Directions to the Carlsbad Flower Fields

The Flower Fields are very easy to get to and are located just off the Interstate 5 freeway in Carlsbad.
Address:
5704 Paseo del Norte, Carlsbad, CA 92008
They’re located right next to the Carlsbad Premium Outlets and directly across the street from the well-known Windmill building, which makes them easy to spot when you arrive.
If you’re coming from San Diego, the drive is usually about 35–40 minutes, depending on traffic.
Once you exit the freeway, the entrance to the Flower Fields is just a short drive up the hill.
Please note, there is a community in Carlsbad called Flower Fields – this is not where you want to go. Double-check on your map that you are going to the Flower Fields near Legoland, Costco and the Windmill building.
Things to Do at the Carlsbad Flower Fields

While the flowers are obviously the main attraction, there are actually quite a few activities and things to explore around the fields.
Here are some of the highlights.
Walk Through the Ranunculus Fields

The main activity is simply walking through the flower fields and taking in the views.
There are designated walking paths that take you along the hillside, and the views of the colorful rows of flowers are incredible.
You’ll also find several designated photo areas set up throughout the fields where you can take pictures without damaging the flowers.
A quick note here, please stay in the marked areas. The flowers are taped off for a reason. Walking into the fields damages the plants and ruins the experience for everyone else.
There were staff driving around in golf carts throughout the day reminding people to stay out of the flowers, so definitely be respectful of the space.
Take the Tractor Ride

One of the things we were most excited to try this time was the tractor ride around the flower fields.
We had never done it before and it ended up being such a fun experience.
The ride takes you on a loop around the fields and even makes a stop near the U-Pick blueberry area at the far end of the property.
You can hop off there if you want to explore more, or stay on and complete the full ride.
Cost: $8 per person
It’s a great way to see more of the property and get some really cute photos.
Visit the Butterfly Encounter

This was one of the highlights of our visit.
The Butterfly Encounter is an enclosed space filled with butterflies flying all around you.
We had never experienced this before and it was magical!
It was $8 per person, and I can confidently say it was the best $8 we spent that day.
We spent about 10 – 15 minutes inside watching the butterflies and taking photos.
One quick note: if you’re visiting with kids, remind them to be gentle and respectful. The butterflies are living creatures, and it’s important not to grab or scare them.
Explore the Art and Garden Installations

Near the entrance area, there’s also a really nice garden and sculpture area with different art installations and landscaping displays.
This section also includes:
- Demonstration gardens
- Flower installations
- Birds and small garden displays
It’s a great place to wander through before heading up into the main flower fields.
Activities for Kids

The Flower Fields also have several activities that make it fun for families.
These include:
- Sweet Pea Maze (great for younger kids)
- Playground area
- Sluice mining
- Flower crown making
There’s also U-Pick blueberries, which is a fun activity if it’s in season during your visit.
Events at the Carlsbad Flower Fields

The Flower Fields also host special events throughout the season.
Some examples include:
- Yoga in the flower fields
- Craft fairs
- Live music
- Seasonal markets
If you’re planning a visit, it’s definitely worth checking their event calendar ahead of time to see what’s happening the day you go.
How Much Time Do You Need at the Flower Fields?

We spent about two hours exploring the flower fields during our visit.
If you add in food, activities like the butterfly encounter or tractor ride, and take more time walking the fields, you could easily spend three hours or more here.
It really depends on how many activities you want to do and how long you want to spend taking photos.
What to Do Near the Carlsbad Flower Fields

One of the best things about visiting the Flower Fields is how close they are to other great spots in Carlsbad.
After we finished exploring the fields, we recommended our cousin and her boyfriend head over to Carlsbad Village.
Carlsbad Village is one of my favorite areas in North County. There are tons of great restaurants, coffee shops, and you can easily walk down to the beach.
Just across the street from the Flower Fields is also Immersion Coffee, which is where we started our day.
I really wanted a matcha, and my sister loves their vanilla latte, so it was the perfect stop before heading over to the fields.
There are also plenty of restaurants right near the parking lot if you want to grab lunch before or after visiting.
And just down the street is the Carlsbad Strawberry Company, where you can do U-Pick strawberries during the season. It’s a great way to turn your visit into a full day in Carlsbad.
