Halloween Horror Nights at Universal Studios is one of my absolute favorite events of the year.Â
It may have taken me years and years to realize it, but I’m finally at that perfect place in life where I wish I could host my birthday party at Horror Nights.Â
There’s just something magical about the atmosphere and the energy.Â
And the best part of Horror Nights is going with all of your friends. If you’re not experiencing fear together, how else can you bond? 😀
If you’re like me and love to capture every moment and get the cutest group photos, then you’re in luck!Â
I’m here to share the top five photo spots you absolutely can’t miss at Halloween Horror Nights. Let’s dive in!
Taking the Perfect Photo at Horror Nights
1. Iconic Entrance Gates

First things first, you have to snap a photo at the entrance gates. The moment you step into Universal Studios, you’re greeted by these massive, beautifully decorated gates that set the perfect tone for the night. This is one of the most popular photo spots, so be sure to get there early or try to snap a photo after the crowds have moved inside.Â
Pro tip: Don’t forget to take a few shots from different angles to capture all the details! Pics from lower angles pointed up look the best at this spot.Â
2. Famous Characters and Scare Actors

Next up, let’s talk about the incredible characters and scare actors roaming the park. These performers are in top-notch costumes and makeup, making them perfect for some unforgettable photo ops. You’ll find everything from classic horror icons to original, terrifying characters unique to HHN.
Pro tip: Be patient and polite when asking for photos. Scare actors are usually happy to pose for a quick shot, especially if you catch them between scares. For candid shots, use a fast shutter speed to capture the action without blurring.
3. The Psycho House on the Backlot Tour (Terror Tram)
If you’re a fan of classic horror, the Psycho House on the Backlot Tour is a must-visit. This is a great spot for a group photo. You can sometimes even pose with Norman Bates!!Â
Pro tip: This is part of the Terror Tram experience. So you will be able to get off the tram and take a photo on the steps of the Psycho house. Please be respectful of others and don’t spend too much time here. You’ll also want to move fast to keep up with the rest of the maze on the backlot.Â
4. Knockturn Alley in Harry Potter Land
Knockturn Alley is hands down one of the coolest places to visit during HHN. The dark, magical ambiance of Harry Potter’s world transforms into an even spookier version for Halloween. The dim, eerie lighting and detailed shops make it perfect for creepy green fog photos. And if you’re more into Harry Potter than scary monsters, this is the place for you! There are even Death Eaters roaming about!
Pro tip: This spot can be quite dark, so play around with your camera’s settings to find the perfect balance. If you’re visiting at Universal Studios Hollywood, this area is found in Hogsmead and not Knockturn Alley. But they do set up a fun walkthrough area to mimic the Knockturn Alley at Universal Orlando.Â
5. Scare Zones

Finally, don’t miss the scare zones scattered throughout the park. Each zone has its own unique theme and characters, offering endless opportunities for amazing photos. From fog-filled streets to elaborate set pieces, these areas are teeming with Halloween spirit.
Pro tip: Each scare zone has its own peak times when the action is nonstop. Try to capture the chaos and excitement by positioning yourself where you can see a lot of the activity. Play with different angles and perspectives to really bring your photos to life.
