Knott’s is back with another round of the Boysenberry Festival! This year you can catch all the festive foods and merch until April 28th.
We went opening weekend and purchased the Boysenberry Festival bundle ticket that included admission to the park, parking, and 3 tastings.
The downside with this pass is that you don’t get a tasting card. I thought because we purchased two of these, which are 6 tastings that we could get a tasting card but the cards are sold separately as their own option.
I haven’t been to the Boysenberry Festival in a few years but I always love it and have a great time. Knott’s Berry Farm is so relaxed, you never feel rushed here.
This year they have 12 tasting booths and 30+ other items sold around the Park for the Boysenberry Festival.
Only the items sold at the booths can be used with your tasting card. You can’t use the tasting card to purchase other items that are not at the booths.
Reviewing Boysenberry Festival Food 2024
Boysenberry Spam Musubi
We started with the Boysenberry Spam Musubi. We LOVE Musubi so we were jazzed about this one.
Online it says the musubi will be in a boysenberry soy glaze but we didn’t see or taste any of that.
I first noticed something was weird when we arrived at the bakery for the item. That seems like an odd item to be sold at a bakery.
But then the group in front of us ordered the spam musubi too and they brought it out in a pre-packaged container, presented like gas station food. I was very confused.
We were still excited at this time, so we ordered it anyway and yes, it was served in a pre-packaged container. It was also labeled as $14 if you didn’t have a tasting card!!
That price is absolutely ridiculous.
The Boysenberry spam musubi was so small and there was absolutely zero boysenberry, none! Plus, it wasn’t even good spam musubi. I’m not sure how you mess that up but they did. I’d give it a 4/10 because of the portion, price, and the fact there was zero boysenberry on it.
We went back into the bakery to ask if there was a sauce we were missing and they said no, it’s all baked in. That made zero sense, it’s spam.
It was the third day of the festival and the woman said she’s had several people come in to say the same thing. She offered us another item, which was very nice of her.
We went with the Boysenberry lemon square and this was an absolute masterpiece! I give this item 10/10.
We also purchased a Boysenberry macaroon and this was another winner. The Boysenberry desserts are always winners. This was another 10/10 in my book.
Boysenberry Elote
Yes and yes to the Boysenberry elote. If you love grilled corn this one is for you. The Boysenberry mayo with cotija cheese was perfect.
It was just sweet enough to taste that it was Boysenberry flavored but didn’t overwhelm the dish. It mixed perfectly with the cotija cheese and I would even love to make this at home.
The Boysenberry elote is a 10/10 for me!
Baked Potato with Pulled Pork and Boysenberry Sauce
The baked potato was one of our favorites from the day. I’m not the biggest fan of baked potatoes but when they’re loaded with extra mashed potatoes and pulled pork – you’ve got me.
This was a huge dish, well worth using one of your tasting card tabs. I think what I like most about the Boysenberry festival is the size of their portions – for most items.
We shared this and good thing we did because it’s hearty. The boysenberry sauce on the pulled pork is perfect, not overly sweet. And the layered mashed potatoes on top of the baked potato really turn this into the perfect dish.
I would order this again. I give it a 10/10.
Beef and Chorizo Boysenberry Chili over Boysenberry Mashers
This dish was a bit different from what I’m used to. Everything was delicious but I didn’t care for the texture.
I’m a texture person and having something like chili over mashed potatoes wasn’t working. I would have preferred the chili to be over tots or fries, something with more crunch, and to soak up the chili.
The mashed potatoes were great as was the chili but together it was a bit off for me.
My husband loved this dish, but as a texture person, I don’t think I would get it again.
For taste and creativity, I give it an 8.5/10, my husband would give it a 9/10.
Boysenberry Sausage and Hot Honey Pizza with Ricotta and Basil
Honestly, I wasn’t expecting much from a slice of pizza but I was pleasantly surprised!
This was one of our last items and we were already pretty full. I thought for sure this was going to be a super small slice and not very flavorful but I was very wrong.
The Boysenberry pizza was a decently sized slice, it was easy to cut in half and both enjoyed a good portion.
AND the pizza was fantastic! Easily one of my favorite options from the Boysenberry Food Festival.
The boysenberry sausage was great but the hot honey with the ricotta and basil…just perfect.
I could easily eat a few slices of this pizza. It’s a 10/10 from us!
Blackened Shrimp Stir Fry with lemon Rice and Boysenberry Teriyaki Sauce
I was very excited to try this dish but was quickly disappointed. First, there was zero boysenberry in this. Absolutely zero teriyaki sauce, not sure where it was supposed to be but there was nothing teriyaki on this dish.
Second, the veggies and rice were completely bland. The shrimp was very tasty and was the only thing keeping this dish together.
Overall, I would give it a 7/10 for it being partially tasty.
Visiting Knott’s Boysenberry Festival
The Knott’s Boysenberry Festival is happening now through April 28th. You can try all of these dishes and tons more while you’re there.
Be sure to check which items are included with your tasting card before purchasing and picking out what you want to try.
As always, I love how creative Knott’s is with their recipes each year and if I’m able to go again before the festival ends I will be trying a lot more items.
The Boysenberry festival is always a fun time at the Parks, the weather is great and people love to get festive and dress up too.
