Navigating Vegas on foot is an adventure not to be taken lightly. What seems like a hop, skip, and a jump between hotels can morph into a trek that leaves your feet begging for mercy.
Think of it like a day at Disneyland – expect to clock in some serious mileage! So, prep like a pro.
This post is all about what to carry while walking around in Las Vegas.
You can spend an entire day and night walking from Casino to Casino, stopping in at bars and shopping. Vegas is great at keeping you distracted.
But it’s important to be prepared for all of the walking, especially if you’re visiting in the summer months.
Las Vegas can reach temperatures in the 100’s. On one trip, it was 113 degrees outside. My eyes dried up, I couldn’t stop rubbing them and the dehydration had me out for a good day or so.
Don’t underestimate the heat, especially if you’re drinking an alcoholic beverage or two.
Vegas has added so many new activities on and off the strip, you will be out all day walking around, running from Zombies in a virtual reality world or crawling your way through tunnels at Omega Mart.
Basically, you’re going to be moving around a lot so be prepared and be sure to carry these essentials with you while you’re exploring Las Vegas.

Must-Carry Items While Walking Around in Vegas
From walking between hotels for an evening show and dinner, to racing to catch the daylight for a Vegas Beach Club – you’re going to be away from your room for most of the day, so it’s best to be prepared.
Below is a list of the essential items to keep with you while walking around in Vegas.
Comfortable Shoes
Wearing comfortable shoes in Las Vegas is VERY important. Pack comfortable sneakers or cute and cushiony sandals for an all-day adventure. Don’t wear new shoes for the first time in Vegas; that goes for heels, sandals, and sneakers.
And if you’re wearing heels or wedges, pack some emergency flats in your bag, just in case.
P.S. – If you’re wearing heels and going to a different hotel – call a car/cab. Do not walk. It’s not a breezy walk. Your feet will thank you for the ride later.
Sunglasses
Protect your eyes while you’re outside, especially if you’re going to the pool. The Vegas sun is only getting hotter, so be prepared.
Sunscreen
Keep a small sunscreen in your bag for touch-ups throughout the day. I prefer a sunscreen stick for my face and a spray sunscreen for my body. You can find both in travel size.

Hat
Cute hats or even umbrellas are great items to carry with you while walking around. Especially if you’re venturing to a pool.
The pool clubs may not allow an umbrella, but they will allow a nice hat or scarf to protect your face.
Crossbody Bag
A crossbody bag is a practical choice for navigating the streets of Las Vegas. Wear it in front of you to deter pickpockets and to have easy access to your belongings.
Crossbody bags are perfect for shopping and enjoying a drink without the hassle of carrying a bulky purse. Opt for a secure zipper closure to keep your valuables safe, and choose a versatile color that can work with your day or night outfit.
ID
Having a valid ID with you at all times is crucial in Vegas, especially if you plan on entering bars, and clubs, purchasing alcoholic drinks, or visiting a dispensary. If you’re traveling from out of the country, it’s best to have your passport on you.
Cash
While credit cards are widely accepted, having some cash on hand is beneficial, especially in places that might have minimum purchase requirements or in case you encounter technical issues with card machines. Tipping at bars, restaurants and hotels is also easier with cash.
Phone
Our phones have become key items for travel. Use it for the obvious like taking photos and texting your group but it’s also great for Google Maps when you’re walking around and for reading reviews of restaurants and clubs. Some hotels even connect with your phone to be used as your room key.
Phone Charger
Given the heavy usage of your phone, having a portable charger is a lifesaver. Invest in a reliable power bank to keep your phone charged throughout the day. Many attractions and restaurants have outlets, but having your own charger ensures you won’t need to be tied down to a location just to charge your phone.
Electrolyte Mix
Las Vegas can be scorching, and staying hydrated is key. Pack electrolyte powder like Drip Drops or Liquid IV to add to your water. These powders contain electrolytes and can help combat dehydration more effectively than water alone. Keep your energy levels up, especially if you’re indulging in Vegas’s vibrant nightlife. Keep them with you in your bag to use with water at restaurants or a bottled water you pick up from a convenience store.
Chapstick
The dry desert air in Las Vegas can take a toll on your lips. Packing a reliable chapstick is crucial to keep your lips moisturized and protected from the sun. Opt for one with SPF to provide an extra layer of defense against the intense sunlight.
Eye drops
Vegas can be dusty, and combined with the dry climate, it might leave your eyes feeling irritated. Carrying eye drops is a smart move to refresh and lubricate your eyes throughout the day. It’s a small but essential item that can make a big difference in your comfort.
Hand Sanitizer
Given the high traffic and constant movement in Vegas, keeping your hands clean is essential. A compact hand sanitizer or wipes will come in handy after touching various surfaces, especially in crowded places like casinos or busy streets. Prioritize your hygiene to stay healthy during your Vegas adventures.
Tampons/Pads
For the ladies, having tampons or pads in your bag is a must. Unexpected situations can arise, and it’s better to be prepared. While many places might have vending machines, having your own supply ensures you’re covered, especially during late-night excursions when some facilities may be less accessible.
First Aid Items
You don’t need to carry an entire first aid kit with you but a couple of band-aids for potential blisters is definitely a must-carry item. Also toss in some pain reliever like Advil or Tylenol and I always carry Pepto and Tums too….because you never know.
Light Jacket/Sweater
Even in the desert, temperatures can drop during fall and winter evenings. A light sweater is advisable for cooler nights, making your outdoor experiences more enjoyable. Additionally, a small umbrella can be handy during occasional rain showers, providing shelter without weighing you down.
Water
Staying hydrated is non-negotiable in the Las Vegas heat. Carry a reusable water bottle to keep yourself refreshed throughout the day. While you can purchase water easily, having your own bottle ensures you have access to water at all times, especially when exploring areas where vendors may be scarce. Remember, the desert climate can lead to dehydration, so make sipping water a constant habit.
Pack Your Own Booze
If you’re planning on spending the afternoon roaming hotels and malls in Las Vegas, you might want to consider packing your own booze. While the city is known for its vibrant nightlife and countless bars, packing your drinks can be a budget-friendly and time-saving option.
On our last trip to Vegas, we packed a large reusable water bottle with vodka and grabbed mixers and ice along the way.
Las Vegas can get crowded, and waiting in long lines at bars can eat into your valuable exploring time. By carrying your own booze, you have the flexibility to stop and enjoy a drink wherever you please, whether it’s by the iconic fountains or while soaking in the vibrant atmosphere of the Strip.
Remember to be discreet and mindful of local regulations. While it’s legal to carry open containers on the Strip, certain areas may have restrictions. Always prioritize responsible drinking and please don’t walk around with glass bottles – plastic only.
Walking Around Vegas
This list of items to carry with you may seem long but it can easily all fit within a small bag. I know it can seem ridiculous to plan so much for a simple day of walking around but every little but helps.
I am absolutely obsessed with planning every little part of a trip including the casual walking days. I hope these tips helped you and you feel more prepared for your vacation.
