Universal Orlando Resort announces a high-speed new coaster inspired by the Fast & Furious franchise
Universal Orlando Resort has officially announced its next major attraction – and it’s moving fast.
Fast & Furious: Hollywood Drift, a high-speed roller coaster experience, is coming to Universal Studios Florida in 2027, bringing drifting turns, speed, and franchise-inspired storytelling to the East Coast.
This new coaster will be a version of the Hollywood Drift attraction currently under construction at Universal Studios Hollywood, though Universal has confirmed the Orlando experience will feature a unique ride layout designed specifically for the Florida park.
The attraction is described as a high-speed outdoor coaster built to capture the intensity and movement the Fast & Furious films are known for – sharp turns, rapid acceleration, and a sense of motion meant to mirror drifting through city streets.
To make way for this new experience, Hollywood Rip Ride Rockit will be closing, marking the end of a longtime Universal Studios Florida staple. Fast & Furious – Supercharged will also be closing, officially shifting the franchise’s presence in the park from screen-based attraction to full-throttle coaster.
A Quick Personal Take
I’m going to add in that I don’t love when the exact same attractions show up on both coasts.
I know the layouts will be different, but when parks start to mirror each other too closely, it takes away some of the excitement of visiting somewhere new.
It’s the same reason I haven’t rushed to experience Galaxy’s Edge at Walt Disney World. We have it at Disneyland, and I’d rather spend my time doing things we don’t have at home.
That said, Universal has shared that the Orlando version of Hollywood Drift will have its own track design, so it won’t be a carbon copy. And if they really lean into that, I’m open to being pleasantly surprised.
I just hope this coaster ends up feeling like it belongs in Orlando, not like a repeat.
Looking Ahead
Fast & Furious: Hollywood Drift is set to open in 2027, and it’ll be another big addition to an already stacked lineup at Universal Orlando Resort – especially with Epic Universe opening and so much happening across Universal right now in Texas and Japan.
What I will say is this: Universal is moving fast. Not just with rides, but with ideas. New lands, new parks, new experiences. They’re clearly not slowing down anytime soon, and I love seeing that kind of momentum.
There are always more details to come, and I’ll be keeping an eye on every update as they roll out.
I’m excited to see how this coaster comes together and curious to see where Universal decides to go next.
