May was a great Disney month!! I ended up going four times—almost five, but I exercised some self-control lol.
If you’re planning a trip to Disneyland in May, you’ll want to be ready for pretty much anything weather-wise.
One day it was 98 degrees, the next it barely hit 68. May was wild. Packing the right outfit can make or break your day, especially if you’re going from full sun to overcast chill in the span of a churro break.
This post is all about what to wear to Disneyland in May.
Here’s what I wore, what worked, and a few things I’d definitely recommend for anyone heading to the parks in May.

What to Wear to Disneyland in May
Layers. That’s the key. One day it hit 98 degrees, the next it barely made it to the high 60s—May had no consistency.
I didn’t wear jeans once and I was fine. Even when the forecast said 72, the sun made it feel much warmer during the day, and then it would drop or get breezy later.
If you don’t want to carry a sweatshirt around, tie it around your waist or bring a bigger bag. I’ve also rented a locker before, which is honestly a great option if you’re planning a full day and don’t want to deal with layers the whole time.
Just check the weather before you leave, and pack for whatever might happen—not just what it says on the app. If you’re planning on taking photos, plan a few options and check the weather that morning before finalizing your look.
Tips for Visiting Disneyland in May
First tip: check the park hours before you book anything. May has special ticketed events like Star Wars Nite and Grad Nite, which means early closures.
Don’t assume the parks will be open late just because it’s almost summer. I always look up the calendar on Disneyland’s official website for the exact day I’m visiting.
Also—weather. I know, I keep saying it, but May was unpredictable. Pack sunscreen, a compact umbrella to block the sun, a water bottle, and dress in layers.
What I Wore to Disneyland in May
Star Wars Outfit (May the 4th)
Welcome to Star Wars Nite!! Now, I didn’t actually have tickets, but I did have a reservation, so I stayed as long as I could. The energy was amazing this night! I am definitely getting tickets for this next year.
But let’s move on to the outfit. Since it was Season of the Force AND Star Wars Nite, we had to be on theme. I went with an Empire theme because I love Darth Vader.
I wore a full-length black long-sleeved dress with a long pendant necklace. I really wanted the necklace to be Star Wars but I didn’t have any time to order something new and Michaels had zero Star Wars charms.
It ended up just being a plain silver necklace but it worked!
I put my hair in space buns because, hello, we’re in space lol. And then I purchased the Vader “ears” that you can DIY at the shops. They were perfect!!
I went with a plain black crescent bag because I couldn’t find my Star Wars tote bag. It is what it is.
This just means I need to find more cute Star Wars merch.

Outfit for Super Hot Disneyland Day
This day ended up being one of the hottest days since last summer. It was 98 degrees!!
We prepped, but still weren’t prepared. I remembered my umbrella but forgot my fan and cooling gel patches.
We ended up only staying a few hours before checking in at our hotel and heading to the pool for the rest of the afternoon.
But I loved my outfit for this day, so let’s get into the details.
I wore my black maxi skirt I picked up in Shanghai, with some bike shorts underneath. Always wear shorts underneath. It helps with staying dry in the heat.
For my top, I wore my Nike tank I picked up at Nordstrom Rack. It was perfect!! I wore a sports bra too. I was not about to wear a real bra in almost 100 degree heat.
I paired it all with my platform Converse (with arch support inserts – of course) and then my Dale plush purse I got at Shanghai Disneyland. I also picked the matching Chip plush purse up for my cousin because we love to twin.

Black Denim Dress and Colorful Accessories
The Disneyland 70th Anniversary Celebration has officially started!! This was my first celebratory outfit (of what I assume will be many).
I kept it simple but fun!
I wore my black denim dress from ASOS and my bright blue Nikes. I love to add tons of color to my basics to jazz them up.
For my bag, I used my new tote bag I picked up on our recent Disney Cruise. The artwork is by Joey Chou. It’s my favorite bag!! So colorful – my eyes are so happy whenever I see it.
I made my bracelets and earrings and picked up a few necklaces online. I just got two new charm necklaces in from Baublebar, one Donald Duck one and one Goofy one.
I also had one from the parks, but it’s available on Disneystore.com too. And my last colorful necklace is from Shein.

Mickey Day
For my last Disney trip in May, I went for a bit of a Mickey theme. I wore my classic Mickey shirt I picked up on Amazon and paired it with some black denim shorts.
I wanted to add a bit more elementary colors and playfulness to it, so I wore yellow socks with my blue Nikes.
I also jazzed up my black Coach tote bag with a ton of colorful Disney plush keychains.
