Everything you need for a stress-free, sun-soaked day at Disney’s private island!
Castaway Cay is Disney’s private island in the Bahamas. It’s pure vacation mode the moment you step off the ship.
On our last trip, we were actually supposed to visit the new Lookout Cay, but the weather was not having it. The water was super choppy, the boat was swaying and there was crazy wind and rain.
Because of all the weather drama, we ended up changing coats to Castaway Cay. At first, I must admit, I was a bit sad because I wanted to go to the new island but how can you stay upset when you’re going to Castaway Cay!?!?
The answer? You cant.
This post is all about what you need to take on your port day to Castaway Cay.
Even if it’s raining (which it can and does), Castaway still feels like paradise. The island is beautiful and relaxing, but there’s also a ton to do—run or walk a 5k, go snorkeling, try some water sports, grab a drink, or just swim and chill all day.
And yes, there’s a full lunch buffet included, so eat your heart out.
Disney provides a few key things once you’re on the island—like towels and beach chairs—but bringing the right extras can seriously level up your day.
Here’s everything I recommend packing for the perfect Castaway Cay day.

Packing for Castaway Cay
1. Beach Day Essentials ☀️
Don’t leave the ship without these must-haves!
- Beach Bag – A lightweight, roomy tote to carry everything you need. Waterproof bags are great for keeping things dry.
- Towels – Grab at least two per person when exiting the ship—one for your chair, one to dry off.
- ID & Key to the World Card – Necessary for alcohol purchases and getting back on the ship.
- Water Bottle – While water is available on the island, bringing your own keeps you hydrated without frequent stops.
2. Sun Protection Must-Haves 🌴☀️
Stay protected while soaking up the island vibes.
- Sunscreen – A reef-safe, water-resistant sunscreen is a must for all-day sun exposure. Don’t forget to reapply!
- Hat – A wide-brim hat or baseball cap provides extra shade.
- Sunglasses – Polarized lenses help cut glare from the water.
- Beach Chair Clips – It can get windy! These keep your towel from flying away.
3. What to Wear 👙🌊
Comfort is key for an easygoing beach day.
- Bathing Suit – Wear it under your clothes so you’re ready to go.
- Light, Breezy Clothes – A sun dress, cover-up, or shorts and a tee are perfect for walking around.
- Water Shoes/Sandals – Protect your feet from sharp shells and rocks. No coral here, but better safe than sorry.
- Walking/Running Shoes – If you’re doing the Castaway Cay 5K, bring comfortable sneakers!
4. Tech & Photography Gear 📸
Capture the magic without worrying about your gear.
- Phone & Portable Charger – You’ll be taking tons of pics, so keep your battery charged.
- Waterproof Phone Pouch – Perfect for fun water photos without risking damage.
- GoPro or Waterproof Camera – If you want high-quality snorkeling or water activity footage.
5. Fun & Extra Comfort Items 🎉🏖️
Little extras that can make a big difference.
- Snorkel Gear (Optional) – Available for rent, but bringing your own is more hygienic. You will need to still wear one of Disney’s orange life jackets when snorkeling.
- Cooling Towel – Helps you stay cool in the heat.
- Mini First-Aid Kit – Band-Aids, pain relievers, and aloe vera gel just in case.
Final Tips for the Perfect Castaway Cay Experience ✨
- Arrive early to grab the best lounge chairs and shady spots.
- Make time for Serenity Bay (the adults-only beach) if you want a quiet escape.
- Stay hydrated and don’t forget to reapply sunscreen!
- Soak in the moment—this is Disney magic in its most relaxing form.
Visiting Disney’s Castaway Cay
Whether you’re floating in the water, biking around, or hitting the beach buffet for the third time (no judgment), having everything you need makes it all feel easier and way more relaxed.
Save this list, pin it for later, or send it to whoever you’re cruising with so no one shows up empty-handed.
And if you’ve already been to Castaway Cay and have a go-to item I missed, tell me! I love hearing what works for other Disney cruisers—especially because we’re prepping for another trip soon.
I’ll be sharing more packing tips from our next cruise, including Disney’s newest ship, the Disney Adventure. So stay tuned!
