Raise your hand if you’re ready to scream!!!! I can hardly contain my excitement for another year of horror and mayhem at Halloween Horror Nights.
Every year Universal Studios puts on the biggest show of mazes, monsters, and complete craziness for the psychos like us that shell out money for it.
But how early is too early to start preparing for the best event of the year?
The answer is never. It’s never too early.
This blog post is all about what to pack for Halloween Horror Nights.
I won’t leave you alone in the dark without your trusty bag of tricks. You’ll need to pack all the essentials to survive the night.
Let’s dive into all the goodies you’ll need for Halloween Horror Nights.
Items to Bring to Halloween Horror Nights
1. Comfortable Clothing
Trust me on this one: you’re going to be on your feet a lot. Choose comfortable clothes you can easily move around in. You don’t need to wear workout clothes or anything but avoid any restrictive clothing. You can’t wear costumes at Horror Nights but bounding is okay. So have fun with your outfit – but please make it realistic to walk around in until 1 AM.
2. Comfortable Shoes
This is a must! You’ll be walking and standing in lines, so good, supportive shoes are crucial. A good pair of worn-in boots, your favorite sneakers or walking shoes are great. Avoid open-toe shoes and heels.
3. Ear Plugs
The screams and special effects add to the amazing atmosphere, but it can get loud. I bring along a pair of earplugs to wear in the mazes because they can be a bit overwhelming for me. If its you’re first time going, earplugs are great to have to help with the noise or if you get overstimulated easily. Earplugs are something I carry with me regularly, but if you haven’t tried them out for loud events I highly suggest trying it.
4. Glow Items
Adding some glow items to your outfit is not only fun but also practical. Glow sticks, bracelets, or necklaces help you stay visible in the dark and add to the festive vibe. Plus, they look great in photos! They are also an easy way to keep track of your group in the dark.
5. Camera
While your phone can capture great pics, consider bringing a small digital camera or a disposable one! Horror Nights is a great spot to grab good pics. Get creative with your shots and include some scare actors in them too.
6. Portable Phone Charger
Your phone will be working overtime – photos, videos, checking the map, and maybe even a quick Instagram Story or two. A portable phone charger is essential to keep your phone battery alive throughout the night.
7. Band-Aids
Blisters and minor cuts can happen, especially with all the walking. Having a few band-aids in your bag can be a lifesaver. They don’t take up much space, and your feet will thank you later. This goes back to wearing comfortable shoes. Avoid the blisters and avoid new shoes at Horror Nights.
8. Hair Ties
If you have long hair like me, you’ll definitely want some hair ties on hand. Keeping your hair up and out of your face is super convenient when you’re navigating through the spooky mazes and scare zones. Last year I went with my hair down and after the first maze it went right up and then after the second maze all my besties asked if I had extra hair ties…and I did. It gets crazy hot running through those mazes.
9. Light Jacket
Evenings can get a bit chilly, so a light jacket or hoodie is perfect. It does get hot in all of the mazes, so pack a jacket that you can put around your waist or fit into your bag when you’re not wearing it. The event ends late, so you probably won’t wear it until you’re heading home and the temps drop.
10. Stomach Medicine
If you’re like me and have a sensitive stomach or are prone to motion sickness, packing some stomach medicine is a good idea. With all the excitement and maybe a few rides, it’s better to be safe than sorry.
11. Event Ticket and ID
This might seem obvious, but it’s crucial! Make sure you have your event tickets and a valid ID for entry and age verification. You need to scan your ticket at the gate before entering and you’ll need your ID to get a wristband if you want to have any alcoholic drinks at the Park.
12. Hand Sanitizer and Wet Wipes
I always carry wet wipes with me or sanitizer and definitely have them when we go to theme parks even for Horror Nights. High-touch places are everywhere and you will want to wipe your hands after rides and before you eat/drink.
13. Crossbody Bag to Keep in Front of You
A small, secure crossbody bag is perfect for carrying all your essentials. Keeping it in front of you ensures it’s safe and easily accessible. I find it much more comfortable and practical than a backpack, especially in crowded places.
Ready for Horror Nights?
I hope you find these tips helpful and that you have an absolutely fantastic time at Horror Nights. You don’t need to pack the world, but these items will definitely help you have a smoother night.
