I fully admit to being that person. The one who starts planning for a cruise port day bag like it’s an Olympic sport.
I need a checklist. I need a plan. I need my day bag to match my outfit. Some people wing it.
I… do not. 😅
If you’re heading off the ship for a port excursion during your Disney Cruise and wondering what exactly you should bring with you – I got you.
Whether you’re taking a smaller boat cruise, hitting the beach, shopping in town, or just wandering around a scenic port city, here’s everything I recommend packing in your cruise port day bag so you can be prepared (and cute) all day long.

First, Let’s Talk About the Bag Itself
Yes, this matters. Your port day bag should be lightweight, comfortable to carry, and big enough to hold your essentials without turning into a suitcase.
I usually go with a small backpack or crossbody that zips shut – bonus points if it’s waterproof or water-resistant.
And yes… I absolutely choose one that matches my outfit. Priorities!
Disney Cruise Port Day Essentials: What to Pack
Here’s what’s in my day bag every single time:
Stay Cool & Hydrated
- Water bottle: bring a refillable one; it’s hot out there
- Portable fan: lifesaver when there’s no breeze
- Hat or visor: keep your face shaded
- Light layers: for when the sun dips or there’s a surprise breeze
- Swimsuit & swim shoes: if your excursion involves swimming
- Towel: compact and quick-dry is the way to go
- Umbrella or poncho: tropical weather = unpredictable. The umbrella is great for intense heat, too.
Important Docs
- ID & Disney Keycard: required to reboard the ship
- Passport: some ports require it; double-check ahead
- Tour confirmation: screenshot it just in case or have it printed out
- AirTag or Tile: toss it in your bag or wallet for peace of mind
Tech & Navigation
- Phone: obviously
- Portable charger: because your phone will want to die in the heat and under all the stress of getting the cutest photos.
- Offline maps downloaded: Google Maps works offline with a little prep, so does Google Translate!
- Data plan/international internet: check with your carrier ahead
Freshen Up Mid-Day
- Sunblock: reef-safe if you’re swimming
- Deodorant: I use regular and body deodorant.
- Lotion and Chapstick: salty air dries you out fast
- Hand sanitizer: always a must
- Mosquito repellent: depends on the destination, but worth having
Just in Case Items
- Cash: small bills in local currency + some USD
- Snacks: trust me, always pack snacks
- Reusable bag: for any souvenirs or wet clothes
- Waterproof pouch or bag: to protect your phone and valuables
- Binoculars: optional, but fun for nature-heavy excursions
- Mini First Aid Kit – Band-Aids, stomach medicine, pain reliever, anti-nauseau medicine, etc.
Tips From a Disney Cruise Over-Planner (aka Me)
- Check the excursion details ahead of time. Don’t get stuck not knowing your meet-up spot or forgetting important documents.
- Know your return time to the ship and set an alarm on your phone. The ship will leave you if you’re late. 😬
- Start packing your bag the night before so you’re not scrambling in the morning.
Planning the Perfect Port Day
So yes, maybe I hyperfixate a little when I plan Disney Cruise excursions. But for me, that’s part of the fun for me.
I love getting everything organized, picking out the perfect day bag, and being way too prepared. It lets me relax once I’m off the ship and actually enjoy the day – no stress, no forgotten essentials.
If you’re prepping for your next cruise port day and want to feel totally set, I hope this post helps you pack like a pro!
Got questions? Want to know what bag I brought or what I wore on port day? Feel free to ask – I could talk about this stuff all day.
