On Fridays, I like to get out of the house and work from a cafe – usually a Disney cafe. More often than not it’s the Disneyland Grand Californian Hotel.
Before the pandemic, Hearthstone at the Grand Californian Hotel used to open around 8 AM and I would be the only one in there snuggled in a corner with my laptop.
It was a great spot because I would work until lunch, order something and then finish off work quickly before heading into the Parks for a ride and coffee.
Those were the good old days. Now, we’re lucky if Hearthstone is open by lunch.
Anyway, I’d seen a bunch of people online say they were working from the new Sketch Pad Cafe at the Pixar Place Hotel and I thought I’d give it a go.
This spot has always been a cafe and I also feel like it was a bar. I remember ordering a Moscow mule here. 😆
Anyway, the vibe has changed for the better. Let’s dive into all the details.
Review of The Sketch Pad Cafe at the Pixar Place Hotel
Service at The Sketch Pad Cafe
I really liked the staff here. I was working for around 3 hours and everyone was super friendly. They also kept everything very clean. I love a good staff and vibe and this place has it.
Menu
They had a pretty decent cafe menu. It’s a lot of the usual coffee shop items but a little more elevated.
I ordered a vanilla oat milk latter and a chia seed pudding. I’d rate the pudding a 7/10, the granola was soggy and the yogurt needed a bit more milk. My latte was a 10/10 – perfect!
I like that they had a lot of options for snacks Including sandwiches, small pizzas, yogurts and pastries.
I think it’s a great coffee shop for Disney. They need more of them. I’ve included a few menu images below and also some photos of the pastry cabinet.
Working from Sketch Pad Cafe
Overall, I really liked working from this location. It’s a lot more relaxed and inviting than the Grand Californian Hotel. The lighting is also a lot better. Nice and bright.
It’s also not as crowded as the bigger hotels since it’s not connected to the Parks. They do get a rush of people in the mornings before the Parks open, so be prepared for lines early in the morning.
I arrived at 12 PM and by that time all of the breakfast options had sold out and they also sold out of small cups for drinks. A pretty odd thing to run out of but it happens.
I ended up ordering a chia seed pudding and it wasn’t the best but my oat milk latte was perfection.
Atmosphere
The music was nice here, everything was relaxing mixes of popular Pixar songs. They also have a TV in the cafe that shows all of the Pixar Shorts. It’s nice for a little break from working.
Bing Bong also makes a few appearances throughout the day which was my favorite part! He will be in the main lobby entrance and will also walk around the cafe.
Logistics of Working from the Sketch Pad Cafe
The cafe didn’t have many outlets at all. I only counted two in the main seating area which isn’t very helpful. But the place isn’t packed so you can eventually get a seat with an outlet.
They did have some outlets on the surrounding perimeter but with smaller tables and chairs. They weren’t really great for working with your laptop.
This place would be better if they had some more outlets and stronger WiFi.
I know it’s not meant to be a remote working space but a lot of people have to work on their vacations, so if they were able to make it easier.
Visiting Sketch Pad Cafe at the Pixar Place Hotel Anaheim
Sketch Pad Cafe is a great addition to the Disney property. I like it when Disney creates new spaces outside of the Parks.
Having a nice area to relax and enjoy some coffee is sometimes all you need. Especially on bigger vacations, having those smaller moments can make a difference.
I’ll definitely be back here again and hopefully have the chance to stay at the hotel too!
