If you’re visiting Davis for a graduation or family weekend, you’ll probably end up at the Holiday Inn Express or somewhere very near it.
Davis is a super small town about 20 minutes from Sacramento. It’s most popular as the home to UC Davis.
We recently visited for my nephew’s graduation and had a great stay at the Holiday Inn Express, Davis.
I absolutely love extended-stay hotels because they include breakfast and usually have more spacious rooms.
The Holiday Inn Express is a chain I’ve stayed at a lot, so I felt comfortable booking with them again for this trip.
Let’s dive into this hotel’s details so you’re ready for your next trip!
Location
Address: 1640 Research Park Drive, Davis, California 95618 United States
The hotel is in a great spot. It shares a lot with Carls Jr. and IHOP. And it’s across the street from Starbucks and KFC.
It’s also about 1.5 miles from Downtown Davis, a great area with tons of restaurants and a cute neighborhood to walk around.
There’s also a Vons/Safeway right down the street too.
AND It’s also super close to In-N-Out. 😀
Check-in Process
We arrived at the hotel around 9:30 AM and half expected to be able to check in since Davis is a pretty small town, but we were wrong.
This place was packed! We didn’t end up checking in until 2 PM. That falls in line with their check-in policy though, which is 4 PM.
We had rented a car so we explored the neighborhood for a bit, grabbed breakfast, and visited with our family.
Just a note, if you arrive early, you will most likely need to wait until closer to the listed check-in time.
Overall, the staff at the front desk was super friendly and helpful when we had a few questions about the surrounding area.
Amenities
Amenities at Holiday Inn Exress Davis, California
Pool
The pool was located at the front of the hotel with direct access to the parking lot. I’m not a fan of parking lot pools. They feel very exposed. It would be great if they used some shrubs to separate the space and create a bit more privacy.
It gets extremely hot in Davis, like in the 100s. The pool wasn’t covered and offered zero shade and the tables and chairs were all black metal. That could seriously injure someone if they sat down on them in the heat.
They did have a couple of table umbrellas but they weren’t open in the AM and at the time, its already in the high 80s. More shade with umbrellas or a nice awning would be great to cool things down. I don’t have kids but I can’t imagine the heat for them, so it would be better if the hotel made sure to keep things covered at all times during the summer, to avoid burns and heat stroke.
Bikes
The hotel did have bikes for use that were super cute. I love when they include little touches like that to make you feel more at ‘home’.
Davis is a very bike-friendly community. The green belt will take you right into town and through some great bike paths through the parks.
WiFi
My husband and I were both working the day we arrived so WiFi was very important. The hotel had free wifi but we ended up using a mobile hotspot instead.
Breakfast
Breakfast was included with our stay, which is always a huge bonus. They served hot and cold items and it wasn’t too crazy packed either.
There were waffles, bagels, muffins, oatmeal, omelets, potatoes and sausage. It was the usual assortment of breakfast goodies and I love breakfast, so I will never complain about a free one.
Everything was very clean, super important for a self-serve food area and they bussed the tables often too.
They even had soy milk which I really appreciated because milk and I don’t get along too well.
Fitness Center
The hotel did have a fitness center. We didn’t use it on this trip but it was decent. It was clean, most importantly. And had the basics like a treadmill, some weights, and mats for stretching.
Parking
Parking was included with our stay. It always feels nice when they don’t add on these additional charges for ‘just arriving’.
They also had two EV chargers and room for trailers. But the lot does fill up fast. So be aware if you’re arriving later in the evening.
Room Tour
The room was a great size. We were on the first floor near the lobby and fitness center but it wasn’t loud at all.
We had a nice kitchenette area with a sink, microwave, coffee maker, and mini fridge.
We had more than enough for us and we used the desk to get some work done too.
Overall Thoughts ⭐ ⭐ ⭐ ⭐
The Holiday Inn Express Hotel in Davis, California is 4 out of 5 stars for me. It’s nothing luxurious but it’s clean, has a friendly staff, free parking, and necessary amenities like complimentary breakfast, fitness center, and pool access.
We had a great stay here and we will definitely be staying here again for our next family trip.
Have you stayed in Davis before? Are there any other places I should check out? Let me know in the comments below.
XOXO,
