Visiting Shanghai Disneyland during the summer? Here’s exactly what I packed to survive the intense heat, humidity, and long park days.
If you’re visiting Shanghai Disneyland during the summer, I have one piece of advice:
Prepare for the heat.
And I don’t mean regular theme park heat.
I don’t mean “it’s warm outside, bring a water bottle” heat.
I mean intense, bright, humid, draining heat.
Before visiting Shanghai Disneyland, I honestly thought I could handle it. I’ve spent time in Florida. I’ve spent weeks in Singapore. I thought I understood heat and humidity.
Then I got to Shanghai.
The sun felt relentless. The humidity was intense. My phone battery was dying faster than it could charge. Every shady spot was full of people trying to cool down.
Don’t get me wrong,I absolutely loved Shanghai Disneyland. It’s one of the most beautiful Disney parks I’ve ever visited.
But the weather caught me completely off guard.
That’s why I wanted to put together this Shanghai Disneyland summer packing guide. These are the items I packed, the things I wish I had brought more of, and the tips that helped me survive two very hot days in the park.

What Is Summer Weather Like at Shanghai Disneyland?

Summer at Shanghai Disneyland is hot, humid, and sunny.
When I visited, temperatures were in the upper 90s with high humidity. Even standing in the shade felt warm.
Unlike some theme parks that have large indoor areas to escape the heat, much of Shanghai Disneyland is outdoors.
There are indoor attractions and shops, but you’ll spend a lot of time walking between lands and standing outside.
If you’re visiting between June and September, plan for:
- High temperatures
- Strong sun exposure
- Humidity
- Long days outdoors
- Large crowds competing for shady areas
The good news is that a little preparation goes a long way.
Shanghai Disneyland Summer Packing List

These are the items I would absolutely pack again.
Umbrella for Shade
This was one of the most useful items I brought.
Not for rain, for shade.
You’ll see a lot of guests carrying umbrellas throughout Shanghai, and after one day in the park I completely understood why.
Having portable shade while standing in outdoor queues and walking around makes a huge difference.
Fans wont help if you’re standing in direct sun. Block the sun completely with an umbrella.
Portable Fan
A handheld fan became one of my favorite items in the park.
Even a small fan can provide relief while standing in long outdoor lines.
Pair the fan with your umbrella and you will be feeling great!
Cooling Towel
Cooling towels look a little silly until you’re standing outside in 95-degree weather.
Then they’re amazing.
Wet the towel, place it around your neck, and enjoy the temporary relief.
These are especially great for young kids that can overheat quickly.
Cooling Gel Sheets
These were another item I was grateful to have.
They’re designed to stay cool against your skin and can help you cool down during the hottest parts of the day.
I placed them on my chest and back. They take a few minutes to get sticky but once they’re on they work great to help regulate your body temperature.
Reusable Water Bottle
You’ll be drinking a lot of water.
Bring a reusable water bottle and refill it throughout the day whenever possible.
And be sure to ask for water at restaurants to refill your water bottle with ice water.
Electrolyte Mix
Don’t just drink water.
The combination of heat, humidity, and walking can really wear you down.
I always travel with electrolyte packets and would absolutely recommend them for Shanghai Disneyland in the summer.
Sun Protection Essentials for Summer in Shanghai

Sunscreen
Pack sunscreen for both your face and body.
You’ll be outside for most of the day and the sun is intense.
Be sure to reapply throughout the day too!
Hat
A hat provides instant shade and can make a huge difference throughout the day. A baseball cap is great but a bucket hat is better for more shade.
Shanghai Disneyland sells an incredible amount of huge sun hats. A ton!!! So you can definitely pick one up at the park.
Sunglasses
The sun felt incredibly bright during my visit.
Good sunglasses are a must.
I was covered with my umbrella but sunglasses were still helpful because it is very bright outside and the floor reflects the sun a lot.
Light Cover-Up
This was one of the biggest lessons I learned.
At first, wearing an extra layer sounds ridiculous when it’s already so hot outside.
But lightweight layers actually helped me stay cooler.
A light button-up shirt, linen layer, or breathable cover-up can:
- Protect your shoulders
- Reduce direct sun exposure
- Help prevent sunburn
- Make walking through the park more comfortable
As long as the fabric is lightweight and breathable, it won’t add much heat.
On my first day at Shanghai Disneyland, I wore a strapless top and it was the worst idea. I was so sweaty and got very red even with sunscreen.
The next day, I wore a regular t-shirt and kept my shoulders covered and I was way more comfortable.
Technology & Battery Essentials
Bring Multiple Portable Chargers
I cannot stress this enough.
The heat absolutely destroyed my phone battery.
During the hottest part of the day, my phone stayed around 20% battery even while connected to a charger.
It wasn’t until around 9 PM, when temperatures finally started cooling down, that my phone began charging normally again.
Between photos, videos, mobile tickets, maps, and translation apps, you’ll likely use your phone all day.
Bring more battery power than you think you’ll need.
They do have portable charger rentals at the park, just like at Disneyland in California and Florida. It’s not a FuelRod but their own version.

What to Wear to Shanghai Disneyland in Summer

Comfort is everything.
I recommend:
- Lightweight athletic clothing
- Breathable fabrics
- Comfortable walking shoes
- Moisture-wicking clothing
- A hat
- Sunglasses
Avoid anything heavy, restrictive, or uncomfortable.
You’ll be walking for hours and dealing with significant heat.
Keep your shoulders covered to avoid burning and overheating. Light layers are best.

@julia.vaness The lack of energy in this video 🤣 The heat at Disneyland Shanghai was truly traumatic. It was crazier than Disney World. But I survived and day 2 was so much better! If you’re spending more than a day in Shanghai, I also put together a guide on what to pack, wear, and carry around Shanghai in the summer so you can stay comfortable while exploring the city before or after your Disney day.
Hydration Tips for Hot Days in Shanghai Disneyland
One thing that surprised me was how difficult it could be to find a comfortable place to sit and cool down.
Every indoor area was packed with people trying to escape the heat.
People were sitting:
- Inside ride exits
- Along hallways
- Inside shops
- Near air conditioning vents
Honestly?
I did the exact same thing.
At one point, I sat in the corner of a store for a while just to cool down.
I also took a very long break inside the castle with a giant water bottle and a snack.
Don’t feel guilty about taking breaks.
Heat exhaustion can sneak up on you.
Take advantage of air conditioning whenever you find it.
Additional Summer Park Tips

Take Midday Breaks
The hottest hours of the day are often the hardest.
Slow down, grab a drink, and spend time indoors when possible.
Prioritize Outdoor Attractions Early
Try to experience outdoor attractions earlier in the day before temperatures peak.
Don’t Underestimate the Weather
I really thought I was prepared.
I wasn’t.
Shanghai summer heat is no joke.
Packing properly will make your trip significantly more enjoyable.
Is Early Entry Worth It in Summer?

Yes.
Absolutely.
If your budget allows for Early Entry, I highly recommend it.
Without Early Entry, it took me about 1.5 hours to enter the park. With Early Entry, it took about 5 minutes.
Not only will you save time on popular attractions with Early Entry, but you’ll also experience some of the park before temperatures reach their peak.
Less time standing in long outdoor lines during the hottest part of the day is always a win.
If I were visiting again during the summer, Early Entry would be one of the first upgrades I’d consider.
@julia.vaness I went to Shanghai Disneyland 2 days in a row and tested if the Early Entry pass is worth it..it is!! Biggest tip would be to purchase the Early Entry ticket and premier pass for the top rides. It saves you SO much time and in the insane heat, its worth it! Disney Parks are always a “pay to play” situation which I dont love but if you can spring for the upgrades, they are 💯 percent worth it. #disneytips #disneyplanningtips #disneyshanghai #disneylandshanghai #disneyshanghaitips #earlyentrypassshanghaidisney #earlyentryticketdisneylandshanghai #tipsforshanghaidisneyland #shanghaidisneyresort #shanghaidisneyland ♬ original sound – Taylor Quitara
